Welcome
We’re so glad that you have joined us!
On behalf of our committee, sponsors, designers and models: Welcome
St Andrews Charity Fashion Show continues to grow from strength to strength. Now twenty years from our humble beginnings, the most recent year saw a host of designers including Amanda Wakeley, David Longshaw and Reem on our catwalks, as well as international press coverage from Vogue, Marie Claire, TV2 Norway and more.
Each year, FS tries to strike the balance between showcasing some of the most well known designers alongside up and coming designers eager to prove themselves in the world of fashion. At the heart of last years’ show was the Alfa Romeo Young Designer Award, which saw five finalists selected from all over the world featured on our very own catwalk in February. Inspired by the Alfa Romeo MiTo, we celebrated with the winner Dominique Dean as her collection captivated the essence of Alfa Romeo’s vision, passion and drive.
In light of these successes, and a legacy which has seen more than £190,000 donated to various charitable causes, FS2012 is certainly going to continue this tradition of charitable donation but also seek to raise the bar and see where a student event can make some waves in the charitable world.
2012 is an exciting year, as we commemorate our 20th Anniversary. In this time of growth and celebration, FS2012 has this opportunity to prove itself as, arguably, St Andrews at its best. As collaboration and creativity collide, students don’t simply ‘attend’ a fashion show.
We engage with something far greater than that.

Nadja Swarovski, Head of Corporate Communications and Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski Crystal Business - Patron of FS 2012
St Andrews Charity Fashion Show 2012 (FS2012) is excited to announce the patronage of Nadja Swarovski for this year’s show. Lending her considerable experience to FS2012, she is recognized for nurturing and celebrating emerging design talent including Scottish designers Christopher Kane and Holly Fulton.
“The St Andrews Charity Fashion show has a long history of promoting both young and established design talent, which is in keeping with Swarovski’s commitment to supporting creative industries. As a patron I am delighted to be a part of this exciting event which also benefits such a deserving cause as the Muir Maxwell Trust,” Nadja Swarovski commented.
A member of the Executive Board of the world’s leading crystal brand, which was founded by her great-great-grandfather Daniel Swarovski in 1895, Nadja joined the family business in 1995. She set about implementing a series of visionary initiatives which have transformed the company’s image, turning crystal into a much desired component in the creative industries, used at the forefront of designer trends.
Forging relationships across the globe, Nadja has challenged established and emerging designers from fashion, design, lighting and stage and screen; including Alexander McQueen, Zaha Hadid, Tord Boontje, Karl Lagerfeld, Ron Arad and Mary Katranzou, to push the boundaries of crystal use in new and revolutionary ways.

Muir Maxwell Trust
FS 2012 is proud to work with the Muir Maxwell Trust (MMT), a charity that supports the 70,000 children in the UK with epilepsy and their families. Established in 2003 by Ann and Jonny Maxwell, the Trust is named after the Maxwell's 14 year old son, Muir, who is profoundly damaged by a severe form of epilepsy that began in infancy.
Essential funds have been raised year on year by way of sensational fundraising events. The FS 2012 partnership with the Muir Maxwell Trust will see the combination of established fundraising and event management skills from both the MMT and FS teams, climaxing with two spectacular evenings: the internationally renowned St Andrews Charity Fashion Show, celebrating it's 20th Anniversary, which will be preceded in Edinburgh by the inaugural FS 2012 Gala Dinner. This stunning new fundraising event will take place in the historic surroundings of Mansfield Traquair. Both nights will be the triumphant conclusion of an eight month campaign of fundraising with fashion.
Each stage will be set to make a real and lasting difference by raising as much money as possible for this most worthy cause.
The Muir Maxwell Trust is a Registered Charity. Charity Number SCO SC034364.

Henry Stanislaw & Gero Kiepe
In the fall of 2010, after discovering their similar taste for music, Gero and Henry began a partnership that would form the greatly successful and infamous St Andrews minimood parties. Recently renamed the moodroom collective, the party series’ success has led the duo to play at the Masquerade Ball, Feel Good, the St Andrews May Ball 2011, the St Andrews Graduation Ball 2011, and invitations to play club nights as far reaching as the Phoenix Landing, Boston, MA, and Villanova, PA’s FIJI nights.

FS shoot sets the bar high
After watching FS2012’s introductory model video, a few words come to mind: organic, sophisticated, fresh. The show is taking a decisive step away from previous shows for their 20th anniversary year.
With Laura Fisher at the helm, FS2012 is “looking to raise the bar to where a student event can make some waves in the charitable world. The mission is to create an entire lifestyle, a brand, a movement, and have it culminate in the end goal itself: the fashion show.” Fisher accentuates every detail that goes into the preparation for the show each year, so this week we were introduced to the models!
The theme of this first shoot for the models’ page was nature. Off the bat: great theme and smart interpretation of the theme in the styling of the shoot. I particularly enjoyed the incorporation of smoke, water, and gold flakes.
When you access the models’ photos on the FS2012 website, the whole feel of it is drastically different from how the models were presented to us last year. The website design is chic and sleek. Instead of amateur full body shots, as in previous years, you scroll through professional beauty shots depicting only part of the models’ faces. Although we’re only seeing part of a whole, the models’ physical beauty and the theme of texture and nature come across eloquently.
Another nice addition is the little bits and bobs of personal information about the models; this brings them down to earth (oh why not, we were just discussing the nature theme, so pun intended.) It’s nice to know super hot people still dislike the same mundane things as most people e.g. “chewed gum, picking the wrong line in the grocery store and burnt popcorn” or “hatefulness, indecision, and celery”!
I was also pleased to see a lot of fresh faces, with many rookies joining the ranks; David Widmann you bite that berry! And of course, some familiar faces as well (such as 6th year FS veteran, Paul Obi).
Overall FS has a very clear vision this year. Last year it set the bar quite high with an incredibly successful show, but this year the emphasis is clearly on the details. And so far, every detail has been impeccably thought out. Every facet of the behind-the-scenes video and the model photos is inspiring.
The music in the video, as in the previous FS video, is perfect. It’s trendsetting, and the beat just makes you want to join their party.
They’ve really raised our expectations with this one, and the stand looks forward to seeing where they go from here.
